Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about adoption, volunteering, and how you can support our mission to save lives.

Adoption Queries

To ensure our animals go to committed homes and to help cover medical costs, we ask for an adoption fee. Typically, this is RM350 for dogs and RM250 for cats. This fee includes their first vaccination, deworming, microchipping, and sterilization.

Our process is designed to find the best match for both you and the pet. It involves: 1. Submitting an online application. 2. A brief phone interview with our counselor. 3. A meet-and-greet at the shelter. 4. Finalizing the paperwork and fee.

Yes, provided your building management explicitly allows pets. We will ask for proof of pet-friendly by-laws during the application process to ensure the animal's safety and housing security.

We offer a 2-week trial period. If things really don't work out after proper introduction techniques are tried, we will take the animal back. We want a happy home for everyone involved.

We prefer local adoptions within the greater Kuala Lumpur area to facilitate home visits and follow-ups. However, exceptions can be made for exceptional homes willing to travel for the meet-and-greet.

Donation Queries

Yes! Save The Strays is a registered non-profit organization. Donations of RM50 and above are eligible for a tax-exemption receipt. Please ensure you provide your email and full name when donating via our portal.

Transparency is our core value. 100% of public donations go directly towards animal welfare—covering veterinary bills (surgery, medication), food supplies, and shelter maintenance. We do not use public funds for high administrative salaries.

Absolutely. We are always in need of rice, high-quality kibble, bleach, old towels, and newspapers. Please contact us to schedule a drop-off time at our shelter.

If you have set up a recurring sponsorship or donation, please contact our support team via the Contact Us page or email help@sts.shzsan.com with your donor details.

Volunteering Queries

For liability and safety reasons, volunteers handling animals must be 18 years or older. However, teenagers aged 15-17 can assist with events or fundraising activities if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Roles vary based on your interest! You can help with Shelter Care (cleaning, feeding), Dog Walking, Event Support, Photography, or even Administrative tasks. Check our Volunteer page for open roles.

While we appreciate ad-hoc help, consistency is key for the animals to build trust. We prefer volunteers who can commit to at least one 4-hour shift per month.

No prior experience is necessary. We provide a mandatory orientation and training session for all new volunteers to ensure you are comfortable and safe.

General Queries

We are located in the greater Kuala Lumpur area. To minimize dumping of animals and protect our staff and animals, the exact address is shared only with confirmed visitors, adopters, and registered volunteers.

We strictly focus on rescuing injured or endangered street animals. We generally do not accept owner surrenders. We encourage owners to work with trainers or rehome privately if they can no longer keep their pet.

Yes. We believe every life is precious. We do not euthanize animals for space. Euthanasia is only considered on strict compassionate medical grounds if an animal is suffering from an incurable condition.

If you see a stray animal in need of rescue, please use the 'Report a Stray' feature on our homepage if you are logged in, or contact our emergency hotline for critical cases.
